The Indiana State University Scott College of Business invites applications for a full time Instructor or Assistant Professor of Insurance and Risk Management.  The desired appointment date is January 1, 2026, but a mutually agreed-upon date will also be considered. Application review will begin immediately, with full consideration given to applications received by September 15, 2025.  However, applications will continue to be reviewed until the position is filled.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate their potential for quality teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels with a desired emphasis on experiential approaches. Teaching responsibilities depend on the candidate’s disciplinary expertise; all areas will be considered.  Candidates are also expected to contribute to the college, university, and communities through meaningful service activities.  Additionally, the candidates for tenure track Assistant Professor position need commitment to conduct quality research leading to publications in insurance and risk management and related fields.

Candidates will be evaluated according to the overall quality of their academic preparation, evidence of commitment to teaching, their teaching skills, their research potential, and the strength of their recommendations.

The major responsibilities and qualifications for Instructor:
  • Quality and innovative teaching at both undergraduate and graduate courses in insurance, risk management, personal finance, and/or business law, with a preferred emphasis on experiential and innovative teaching approaches. Teaching may include evening classes, courses at remote campuses, or instruction using distance-learning technology.
  • Service to the college, university, and communities through meaningful service activities.
  • Directing the overall operation of the Gongaware Center, which supports insurance and risk management and financial services education in the Scott College of Business.
  • Master’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of related experience (teaching and/or professional).

The major responsibilities and qualifications for Assistant Professor:

  • Scholarly research that leads to quality journal publications in insurance and risk management.
  • Quality and innovative teaching at both undergraduate and graduate courses in insurance, risk management, personal finance, and/or business law, with a preferred emphasis on experiential and innovative teaching approaches. Teaching may include evening classes, courses at remote campuses, or instruction using distance-learning technology.
  • Service to the college, university, and communities through meaningful service activities.
  • Possibly holding the Dr. Larry Coleman/H. Peter Hudson Endowed Professorship of Insurance.
  • Doctorate degree in Risk Management and Insurance, or closely related field from an AACSB accredited institution by date of appointment.  ABD may also be considered.
