The Position

The Vaughan Institute of Risk Management & Insurance within the Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar position starting in August 2026. We are particularly seeking candidates with research interests in health insurance and/or life insurance, but will also consider candidates with other insurance or risk management-related backgrounds.

This is a one-year postdoctoral appointment, renewable for a second year, with a salary of $75,000 and benefits. The position carries a 1–1 teaching course load (one course per semester) with no additional research or service obligations to the department, allowing the scholar ample time to pursue their own research agenda.

Candidates must have received (or expect to receive) a Ph.D. within the last two years (i.e., doctoral degree conferred no earlier than May 2024).

Education Requirement

Earned doctorate or strong evidence that the doctoral degree will be completed before August 2026. The Ph.D. must have been conferred no earlier than May 2024 (i.e., within the last two years of the appointment start date).

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated record of research productivity or a promising research agenda in Insurance and Risk Management
  • Effective communication skills
  • Demonstrated potential for effective teaching at the university level

Desirable Qualifications

We particularly seek candidates who are prepared to teach courses in health insurance, life insurance, or risk management, though candidates with other insurance or risk management-related backgrounds will also be considered.
